Canadian Cottage Country
During the early part of the 20th century, the area around Parry Sound, Ontario was a popular subject for the many scenic art works of Tom Thomson and members of the Group of Seven. The body of water that gives the town its name was surveyed and named by Captain Henry Bayfield in the 19th century, in honour of the Arctic explorer Sir William Edward Parry. In 1857, the modern townsite was established near the Ojibwa village of Wasauksing ("shining shore") at the mouth of the Seguin River.
The Pub
The inhabitants of Great Britain have been drinking ale since the Bronze Age, but it was with the arrival of the Romans and the establishment of the Roman road network that the first inns called "tabernae", in which the traveller could obtain refreshment, began to appear. After the departure of Roman authority and the fall of the Romano-British kingdoms, the Anglo-Saxons established alehouses that grew out of domestic dwellings. The Anglo-Saxon alewife would put a green bush up on a pole to let people know her brew was ready. These alehouses formed public meeting houses (or "pub" for short) for the villagers to meet and gossip and arrange mutual help within their communities. Here lie the beginnings of the modern pub.
The Isle of Purbeck
The Isle of Purbeck, not a true island but a peninsula, is in the county of Dorset, England. It is bordered by the English Channel to the south and east, where steep cliffs fall to the sea; and by the marshy lands of the River Frome and Poole Harbour to the north. Its western boundary is less well defined, with some medieval sources placing it at Flower's Barrow above Worbarrow Bay
Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle is a fortification standing above the village of the same name in the English county of Dorset. Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates back to the 11th century and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage. The first phase was one of the earliest castles in England to be built using stone when the majority were built with earth and timber.
The City of Westminster
The origins of the City of Westminster pre-date the Norman Conquest of England. In the mid-11th Century king Edward the Confessor began the construction of an abbey at Westminster, only the foundations of which survive today. Between the abbey and the river he built a palace, thereby guaranteeing that the seat of Government would be fixed at Westminster, and inevitably drawing power and wealth west out of the old City of London.
Paris in the Springtime
These images were taken when I decided it would be a good idea to go to Paris.......for breakfast. It seemed like a crazy idea at the time, but I was rewarded by these striking images, just as a storm approached Paris.
The Streets of London
London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium.
The Stones
"The derivation of the name Stonehenge as coming from the Old English words stān meaning "stone", and either hencg meaning "hinge" (because the stone lintels hinge on the upright stones) or hen(c)en meaning "hang" or "gallows" or "instrument of torture"
Dating back almost five thousand years, "The Stones" hold many secrets. Whether or not their stories will ever be revealed remains to be seen; however, the bluestones pose an impressive and awe-inspiring skyline.

I don't know what it is about these guys but, every time I look at them, I can't help laughing. I think I'm going to put this image in my bathroom so that I can start each day with a smile.

The power of the imagination is an amazing thing. It can captivate, enthrall and entice. In these music-inspired images, I have tried to capture some of that imagination.
Downtown
This image was taken as the sun was setting over a very cold Toronto. It's a departure from usual style but I really fell in love with the way the warm sunset seems to offer a glimpse of spring.
